The volunteer crew of the Sheerness RNLI relief fleet inshore lifeboat D-809 ‘Eric Howland’ were tasked at 16:27 on Friday 2 July by the UK Coastguard in response to reports of a windsurfer deemed to be in difficulties approximately 700m off shore and 200m west of the Sheerness Catholic Church on Marine Parade.
Launching at 16:42 with a crew of 3 the lifeboat was on scene with the casualty at 16:46. No medical assistance was required and the windsurfer plus his rig were taken back to the safety of the Shingle Bank from where they had launched.
The ILB was released from the incident at 17:04, returned to station at 5.12pm and was ready for service after cleaning and re-fuelling at 17:33
