Sheerness ILB was tasked at 19:12 to reports of incident at the Kingsferry Bridge, Police in attendance. Launching at 19:26 with a crew of 3 onboard the ILB was subsequently stood down at 19:35 as the incident had been resolved. Returned to moorings at 1945, ready for service at 20:00. Easterly F4.
Sheerness ILB was requested to launch to reports of an incident at Rochester, River Medway. ILB launched 22:05 & proceeded up river,but was stood down shortly afterwards at 22:11, as the situation had been resolved by the police on scene. ILB back on station 22:15, ready for service 22:25. Southerly F4.
ILB requested to launch to search along Sheerness & Minster sea front following reports of a missing person. ILB launched at 06:20 and started searching 06:34 from Sheppey Sailing Centre towards Minster Leas. CG mobile units were in attendance searching the beach areas. ILB completed search at 07:04 and with an ebbing tide, was unable to maintain the search close to the shoreline. ILB stood down 07:10 & was back on station & ready for service at 07:30. The person in question was found safe & well ashore shortly after this.
Sheerness ILB was tasked at 18:40 by the UK Coastguard to reports of a person in the water in the vicinity of Chatham Maritime. Launching at 19:00 with a crew of 3 the ILB was stood down at 19:10 when it was confirmed by the UK Coastguard that the person who had been within the Dockyard basin area was now in the care of Kent Police. ILB returned to station at 1915 and was ready for service at 19:30. Weather cloudy, Wind SW F3.
ILB requested to assist 2 Jet skiers reported aground in the Swale, ILB already afloat on exercise close to Queenborough Spit and proceeded into the Swale at 18:00. ILB arrived on scene 18:30 to find the jetskis high & dry on the mud, some way from any navigable water or the sea wall. CG mobile units from the Island & Herne Bay attended and attempted to get to the 2 casualties with the jetskis. After some considerable effort by both the ILB crew & CG it became apparent that extracting the casualties across the mud was not a viable option and CG helicopter 163 was requested to assist. 163 arrived on scene 20:40 and was able to lift both casualties & CG personnel to safety, although it had to divert to Southend to refuel during the operation. All personnel ashore by 21:45, ILB released 22:05 & returned to station, being ready for service after cleaning by 23:30. Weather; E2.
The Sheerness inshore lifeboat was tasked by the UK Coastguard 20:27 on Monday 6 September to reports of a person entering the water from the isle of Grain. Having launched with a crew of three the ILB was unable to get closer than 8 cables from the reported position due to the tide being at low water.
The Coastguard helicopter, which was also on the scene, located several people on the sea wall at Grain who reported that all was OK with nobody in trouble.
The lifeboat was stood down20:50, and was back on station at 21:15. The incident is logged as False alarm with good intent. Weather; clear sky, E2, calm, good vis.
Sheerness RNLI all-weather lifeboat ‘Judith Copping Joyce’ launched at 09:45 on Saturday 04 September after being tasked by the UK Coastguard to assist a 20mtr Dutch Barge with two people onboard that had suffered a de-masting close to Sheerness.
The casualty vessel was found to be alongside the Royal Bridge in Sheerness Docks,where one of the two people onboard was already ashore and in the care of the Sheppey Coastguard Rescue Team, after sustaining crush injuries to his hand.
With help from the Sheppey Coastguard team the lifeboat crew raised the broken section of mast and secured it to the vessels deck. The main mast was moved to allow operation of the crafts tiller.
The lifeboat then escorted the barge to Queenborough Harbour and assisted its mooring-up to the concrete lighter.
The ALB was stood down at 11:50 and was back on her moorings at 12:00.
The crew of the inshore lifeboat were also called out by the UK Coastguard later in the day at 18:36 to investigate reports of a possible body on the shore opposite the Medway Town Rowing Club at Wickham Reach. Having arrived on scene at 19:08 the crew found nothing untoward other than an amount of flotsam and were stood down at 19:17 and were back on station at 20:00.

Sheerness all-weather lifeboat ‘Judith Copping Joyce’ was tasked by the UK Coastguard at 19:26 on Tuesday 24 August to respond to reports of a 36’ motor cruiser with two people onboard that was aground off of the Isle of Grain a short distance from the lifeboat station.
Launching at 19:46 with a crew of five the Lifeboat was on scene at 20:00 where the vessel was found to be hard aground South East of the Mid Swatch Buoy.
Whilst assessing this incident the Lifeboat was further tasked to respond to a PanPan call from another vessel in the vicinity, which was also reported to be aground.
The Lifeboat located this craft at 20:15 and having attached a towline the vessel was quickly pulled clear and into deeper water. The ALB was released from this incident at 20:30 and returned to the initial casualty which was found to still be in water too shallow for the Lifeboat to assist.
Following discussions with the UK Coastguard and the people on the stranded craft the Lifeboat was stood down and returned to moorings at 21:14 with the crew tasked to re- launch at 23:00. The casualty was eventually re-floated at 01:00 and with a towline attached was taken to the Queenborough All Tide Landing where it was secured 01:50
Having been released from the incident the ALB was back on her moorings and ready for further service 02:30. Wind F5 N/NE Sea state slight, visibility good.
