Inshore lifeboat diverted from exercise at 2035 to report of small craft aground off Gillingham Strand, 2 persons onboard. ILB on scene at 2055, crewman from ILB walked across the mud to the craft, both persons cold and one very wet, having been in the water, Ambulance requested. With the assistance of Sheppey and Medway CRT, the two persons were assisted ashore to the ambulance. With no anchor and nothing to secure the craft to, the ILB managed to drag the craft into the water and secured to a mooring buoy. ILB was released and a very muddy crew and ILB returned to station at 2350, after a thorough wash down, the ILB was ready for service at 0100. Nthly 4/5.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 0448 to report of a person in the water at Chatham, near Sun Pier. Police, Police Helicopter, Kent Fire/Rescue launch & Medway CRT all attending, on route, ILB crew advised that person may be dangerous and evading the Police. ILB on scene at 0513, person reported to have come ashore at Royal Engineer’s compound, ILB standing off, in case person re-entered the water, however at 0533, person confirmed to have been detained by Police unit. ILB returned to station at 0626. E 4/5.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 2200 to report of small craft left Gillingham at 1800 for Kingsferry bridge area, but not yet returned, UKCG concerned for the welfare of the 3 persons onboard. ILB on scene at 2212, nothing visual, ILB commenced search of area. Further info from 1st Informant, stated he heard from occupants, craft was tied up and the persons ashore, but declined to disclose location. ILB stood down and returned to station at 2236. Nthly 4.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 0031 to yacht aground in Stoke Creek, River Medway. On scene at 0100, tow established and the yacht was towed clear of the marsh into deeper water and then towed to a safe mooring further up the creek. The ILB was released and returned to station at 0211. SW 4/5.
All weather lifeboat launched at 1940 to report of a single handed 23ft yacht broken down and drifting, initial position placed to the East of Southend Pier, lifeboat attempted to D/F the casualty, but nothing heard, the lifeboat was then directed to search to the North West of the Kentish Windfarm, still nothing visual or no contact on radio, whilst continuing the search, a message was received by an outward bound vessel, who had sighted a craft answering the description in the area of the Maplin buoy. Lifeboat proceeded to the location and located the drifting craft, person onboard okay, a tow was established and the craft was towed back to Queenborough harbour, where it was finally secured at 2324, lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 2355. Inshore lifeboat paged at 1945, to report of Female jumped from Rochester Bridge. ILB stood down at 1953, person confirmed to have been recovered by local craft and all well.
All weather lifeboat paged at 2345 to report of Yacht aground in entrance to Stoke Creek, River Medway, upon receipt of further information, the yacht was further up the creek and inaccessible to the All weather lifeboat, decision was made to page for Inshore lifeboat.
All weather lifeboat launched at 2018 to 22ft Yacht with 2 persons onboard, unable to make any headway in prevailing weather, initial position given as off Kentish Windfarm/Whitstable area. ALB proceeded and eventually located the craft to the South East of the windfarm, in choppy conditions after several attempts, a crewman was placed onboard and a tow was established, due to the conditions and size of craft, the tow proceeded at a slow speed until in the lee of the land, where it was more comfortable. The craft was eventually secured in Queenborough harbour at 2325. The lifeboat returned to station at 2337. Sthly 4/5.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 2115 to 20ft cabin Cruiser reported aground on mud in Limehouse Reach, River Medway. ILB arrived on scene at 2200, tow secured and the craft refloated and towed back to Sun Pier, Chatham, where they were met by Medway CG. ILB returned to station at 2326. Sthly 4/5.
All weather lifeboat launched at 1653 to 8 mtr yacht which had snagged itself on unknown obstruction in Long Reach, River Medway, 2 persons onboard. ON scene at 1715, after investigation, it was found that the yacht had fouled it’s propeller and rudder on a abandoned anchor and rope, crew recovered the anchor/rope and the yacht was towed to Gillingham marina to be lifted out, the yacht was handed over to the marina workboat at 1720. Lifeboat returned to station at 1825. Estly 4.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 1849 to report of 3 persons in difficulties in the water off Minster Leas. ILB on scene at 1849, persons now on the beach, ILB was beached to check on persons, it was immediately apparent that all 3 persons had ingested water and one required oxygen therapy, this was administered by casualty care trained crew until arrival of ambulances, all three casualties were handed over to the ambulance service for further treatment. ILB returned to station at 1945. Estly 4.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 1448 to report of Children possibly in difficulties off Minster Leas, ILB on scene at 1457, seven children found trying to get back ashore from sandbank to the beach, ILB took them all onboard and landed them close to the beach in safe area, all okay & no medical attention required. Sheppey CRT, CG Rescue Helicopter, Police, Ambulance and Kent Fire/Rescue all proceeded to incident. With children all safe ashore, the ILB was re-tasked at 1505 to a 10 mtr Yacht broken down off Allhallows, 2 persons onboard. ILB on scene at 1524, yacht taken under tow, but due to the size and distance to safety, the All Weather lifeboat was requested, which arrived on scene. Tow passed over and ILB released to return to station.
The All weather lifeboat which had the Yacht under tow made good progress with the tow back to Queenborough Harbour, the yacht being secured alongside the all tide landing at 1720. In the meantime, the ILB had been launched again at 1639 to an empty Inflatable Kayak, reported tied to a navigational mark in the River Medway, concerns that person(s) may be missing from Kayak. ILB arrived on scene, to find that a Speedboat had collected the Kayak, which belonged to them and confirmed that no persons were missing. ILB released. Both the ILB and ALB both arrived back on station at 1733. E 3.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 1849 to 8 mtr Speedboat broken down 300 metres off the Shingle Bank, Minster, 5 persons on board. ILB on scene at 1854, craft taken under tow and towed the short distance back to the Shingle Bank Ramp. ILB returned to station at 1924. SW 2.
Inshore lifeboat launched at 2238 to man overboard alarm activated on Personal Locator Beacon in area of Lower Upnor, River Medway. Several Port and Local craft on scene searching. ILB on scene at 2303, after further information, a Dutch yacht reported he had accidently activated alarm, no persons in the water or missing, with incident being resolved, the ILB was released and returned to station at 2330. Inshore lifeboat launched at 2230 to report of small rubber dinghy with outboard failure and now stuck on mud near Turk’s Boatyard, Chatham. 4 persons on board, possibly intoxicated. ILB was stood down at 2250, persons confirmed safe ashore with Medway CRT, dinghy secured. ILB returned to station at 2310, ready for service at 2330. Estly 2/3.
